7th week at Gally...

Seven weeks had passed--I am halfway done with my very first semester at Gally!!!

I've learned so much within the last seven weeks in my ASL 103 class.

-Registers- Consulative, formal, casual, intimate, and frozen.
-William. C. Stokoe- Father of ASL Lingustics (He developed the handout of all symbols that shows the handshapes being used while signing.)
-A Video Clip of Dr. Ben Bahan (Chairperson of Deaf Study/ ASL Dept @ Gally. ) (titled: Emergence of Language) WOW! What an interesting video clip- In the summary of Dr. Ben Bahan's presentation, Gestures that are found in an expressive language of ASL will never VANISH! The process of acquisting our very own language can be easily identified in all areas of gestures, body language, the selection of facial expressions , and so on. In addition, the importance of how ASL was being developed as a language which is known to be recognized internationally. *Hands to him*

Now im looking foward to complete my 1st semester soon as in the terms of moving into the 2nd semester. WISH ME THE BEST LUCK ON MY MIDTERMS!! ( MIDTERM WEEK IS COMING OON- EKKKK!)

I am pleased to hear positive
remarks like yours about ASL.
Most people do not realise that ASL is the natural sign language of Deaf Americans while it is a foreign language of hearing Americans. English is a foreign
language of Deaf Americans.

Happy signing and reading/writing
bilingually!
